Type what you want to become — "welder", "nurse", "make movies" — and where you are. Skillit maps the real ladder into that career near you: try-it-out programs, classes, paid apprenticeships, licenses, scholarships, unions, and the employers at the top. Every card shows the date it was last checked and a link to the page that proves it.
A ZIP code, how far you can travel, how far you got in school, and what you're curious about. Skillit picks the field and focus from plain language — a picker is the fallback, not the front door.
Rows are cities — yours first, then neighbors with mileage. Columns are the five steps from first exposure to employer. Cards are color-coded by type and filter live: paid only, under 18, distance, education.
If an area is thin, Skillit logs a research request and sends specialist agents onto the live web. Only items provable with a working link enter the library — the next person there gets an instant answer.
Nothing is invented, ever. Every card carries the date it was last checked and the official page behind it. Scholarship totals are summed only from amounts stated on official pages — funds without published amounts are counted but never totaled.
ZIP resolves to city and state everywhere. Nationwide programs show for everyone; state depth is added one state at a time — and when a state isn't mapped yet, Skillit says so instead of padding.
Skilled Trades, Film & TV, and Healthcare are live. The engine is field-agnostic: a new field is a registry entry and a research campaign, not a rebuild.
Every card: what it is, what it costs or pays, age and education requirements, the last-checked date, and the proof link.
The strip above each map is computed for that person's situation — total options, nearby, paid, free, and the scholarship money actually listed on official pages.
